PROGRESS IN DEMONSTRATION

From the August 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian science is the law of God, and demonstration of its truths requires progress in individual understanding. Its purpose is to reveal God to mankind. In "Unity of Good" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 6), "In proportion as the spotless selfhood of God is understood, human nature will be renovated, and man will receive a higher selfhood, derived from God, and the redemption of mortals from sin, sickness, and death be established on everlasting foundations."

It is recorded in the Bible that Jesus withdrew from his disciples, and went up into a mountain by himself to pray. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 32), "Jesus prayed; he withdrew from the material senses to refresh his heart with brighter, with spiritual views." And it is recorded that after these periods of quiet prayer, he did mighty works.

We all have the opportunity of entering into the closet to commune with God, and to find in the contemplation of some loved passage from the Bible or our beloved Leader's writings new views of God and man, new inspiration and joy to go forward in the glorious work of proving our indestructible relationship with God.
