Testimonies of Healing

For twenty years Christian Science...

From the December 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For twenty years Christian Science has met my every need. It has comforted me when loved ones have passed on. It has healed my family and me of sickness, limitation, lack. It restored me to life after the physician in attendance had pronounced me dead. To say that I am grateful for this healing truth which Mrs. Eddy has given to us in her discovery and establishment of Christian Science is not sufficient. My gratitude can be adequately expressed only in the daily study and application of Christian Science.

This Science was presented to me a few months after my mother had passed on. It certainly answered many perplexing questions, and comforted me as nothing else had ever done. I have always been very grateful for that first year of study, for Science certainly was a sustaining power in my senior year at high school. Through what understanding I had gained, I was able to withstand the temptation to smoke and drink, things which many of my classmates learned to do that year. At no time did I ever hesitate to take my stand. I am indeed very grateful for spiritual protection and guidance.

Christian Science was a great support to me at the births of our five children, and it has been their only physician. My elder son was stricken with scarlet fever when he was three years old. For two weeks he was critically ill. Others in the family had manifested the same trouble and had been healed quickly. A four-months -old daughter and I were instantaneously healed of this ailment. I sincerely and earnestly prayed to see the truth clearly, that my son also might be freed. A testimony in the Christian Science Sentinel interested me very much. It then came to me very clearly that I had a false sense of my relation to my little son, and that when I realized that both the child and I, in our true selfhood, were children of God, our Father-mother, both of us would be freed from these fears and ills of mortal mind. With this in my thought I slept for the first time in two weeks. In the morning, when I awoke, I found the little fellow was completely healed. He was standing up in his crib asking to be taken out for his breakfast. This is a lesson that I have not forgotten. I remember this daily in caring for the children. The liberation and freedom which both they and I have experienced have been most gratifying.
