Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has written on page vii of the Preface to Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Our days are indeed full of blessings when we lean on God and come to know Him in the light of Christian Science. I could never adequately express my gratitude in words for all the blessings I have experienced through the study of the truth which Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated, and which Mrs. Eddy has given to mankind for its use and application.
The healing power of Truth which is discerned through the study of Christian Science was introduced into my home when a relative was healed quickly and completely of a nervous breakdown. At the time the healing took place, I knew nothing of Mrs. Eddy's teachings and was going to an orthodox Sunday school, where I learned that Jesus and his disciples healed the sick and cast out sin. As to how he accomplished these healings and taught others to do the same, I had not the slightest idea, and, I must confess, no great desire to learn.
I was very young, but I was eager to do my part when the practitioner on the case told me to read the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. I understood very little of what I read, but I was willing to continue. The result was that a year later, when an operation seemed inevitable, I turned to Christian Science for healing, and, through the loving work of a practitioner, I was healed. That healing took place eighteen years ago, and there has never been the slightest suggestion of a return of the erroneous condition. Since then I have experienced many healings, both physical and moral. Some undesirable traits of character have been wiped out as I have continued the study of Science, for which I am deeply grateful.
