Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has been my...

From the October 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been my only help in trouble for a number of years, and I am sincerely grateful for many healings that have taken place in my home, and for the peace and comfort it has brought in every trial that has come to me.

I wish to share one wonderful healing which my husband experienced. Although he has not studied Christian Science very long, he has been able to apply the understanding that he has gained to demonstrate its teachings, and I am happy to share this healing with others.

The gas company in our community installed a new gas meter in our basement. A few days later, my husband detected an odor of gas while he was in the basement, and found that the large hot-water tank was making a noise, and the pilot was out. The men who had installed the new meter had neglected to relight the pilot, and although my husband was cautious about relighting it, a huge flame shot out with a terrific explosion, burning his hand and arm severely. I was in the upper part of the house and heard the loud explosion, and then I heard my husband calling for me to hurry to him. At once I declared that there are no accidents in divine Mind, and until I reached him I kept this clear in my consciousness. He was suffering from the burn and said he was trying to do some work, and asked me what he could do. I answered him by saying that God is "a very present help in trouble" and He is our only physician. The pain was so intense that he had to go into the open air because the room temperature seemed unbearable. We both worked to know that "with God all things are possible," and I soon went to get my textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and turned to page 393, where Mrs. Eddy has written: "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation."
