I wish to express my joy and gratitude for the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through the study of this textbook I received my first healing in Christian Science.
I had been a student of the Bible long before I became a student of Christian Science. I had often pondered the teachings and healings of Jesus, and had asked many questions as to why his teachings were not now fulfilled in their entirety— why the sick were not healed as in Jesus' time. Receiving no satisfactory answer to my questions, I continued to search the Scriptures. At this time, however, the promise of Jeremiah was a great help to me: "Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
I had always been well until a time when, for about two years, I was a semi-invalid. During this period I prayed as I had been taught in the Bible, and asked God many times to heal me, if it were possible, in the way Jesus healed the sick. When material means failed, the Christian Science textbook was given me to read. I studied over and over the chapter entitled "Prayer." By the time I had nearly finished the chapter "Atonement and Eucharist." I realized I had found the way in which Jesus healed the sick. The Christian Science textbook had answered my questions about Jesus' teachings and healings.
