Until I was twenty years old I attended the Christian Science Sunday School, during which time I received innumerable healings, as well as help in obtaining employment at a time when it did not seem to be easy to find. My gratitude is great to God. to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to the practitioners, who are always so ready to help us over the rough places.
I was out coasting one lovely winter day when my sled hit a bare spot. The sled swerved, throwing both my companion and me off. I rolled down the hill, striking the wooden trough of a toboggan slide, and cutting a gash across my lip and chin. This cut required thirteen stitches, which were taken at the hospital where I was sent. I was soon removed from the hospital, at which time a Christian Science practitioner was called, who took up the work.
Soon it was discovered that my jaw was broken, and it was thought advisable to have it attended to, so my jaws were wired together for six weeks. During this time the practitioner was earnestly helping, and my family and I were closely studying our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and clinging to the ninety-first Psalm. I was told that I should probably lose twenty or thirty pounds, for I could not eat solid foods, but I lost only five.
