I first became interested in Christian Science for the healing of physical disabilities. At that time I was suffering from an organic disorder, insomnia, extreme fatigue, and indigestion. I was taking five medicines daily in addition to visiting the doctor's office three times weekly for massage, artificial sunlight, and electrical treatments, as well as having so-called "shots" injected into my veins. Instead of improving, I was rapidly growing worse. The physician's verdict was that it would take about six years for me to regain my health. I was very much discouraged, and had lost faith in material means.
At this juncture it was recommended to a member of my family that I investigate Christian Science. I knew that such a religion existed, but knew nothing definite about its healing power and influence. I was deeply impressed, however, when my relative told me of specific healings which he had been told were results of the study of Christian Science. This was on a Wednesday morning. That evening I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting and was uplifted and inspired by the testimonies given of the healing of disease and discord of many types.
The following morning I visited a practitioner. She patiently and lovingly explained something of Christian Science to me, and began treatment. When I left her home I felt as if I were in a new world. Discouragement had been to a great extent replaced by hope. Upon returning home I went to the medicine cabinet and threw away enough medicine to fill a large wastepaper basket. I ate a hearty lunch, and that night slept for the first time in many months without the aid of a sedative.
