QUIETNESS

From the March 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."—Philippians 4:7.

Out of the depths, O God, we look to Thee—
Thy high omnipotence, Thy perfect peace—
And know that darkness, fearful though it seems,
Is nought. Thy light doth shine; earth's gloom will cease.

Out of the deadly storm we cry to Thee,
Lord, help us lest we perish! And we hear
A still small voice, Be still, Mine own, and know
I AM, and I am All; cast out your fear.

Then comes a wondrous calm, so deep and still;
In reverence and in gratitude we pray,
Grant us Thy peace, O God, to do Thy will
In everything, more fully day by day.

And though the storms of evil still rage on,
Mounting in fury till they break, and cease,
We know all mortal dreams are vanishing
And go our way, rejoicing in Thy peace.
