I wish to share some of the proofs that have come to me through Christian Science, which has taught me to recognize God's omnipotence and protection and to know the powerlessness of mortal mind in everyday affairs.
The peace of Christian Science won me at a time when I had virtually given up churchgoing. I had been faithful as a worker in another church from childhood, but I became dissatisfied with the lack of unity evinced by various Christian denominations. I noticed with increasing wonder the peace and joy which were shown by others, and which I felt myself while attending Christian Science services. Here was a church where one could attain peace while attending the services. Gradually I gained enlightenment and a peace that I had never thought possible, and I began to recognize the fact that physical healing and regeneration follow the application of the truth.
Suffering from many physical disorders, I soon sought a practitioner for help from a severe headache. These headaches had been many and frequent throughout my whole life. Immediate relief came. The superiority of this help seemed to me to prove that through God all things would be possible. I took up the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. This was in 1932. Since then insomnia, hay fever, colitis for which I had doctored for many years, underweight from childhood, and many irritating ailments have left me. Not until I lifted my thought above the physical irritations and mentally replaced them with the truth, did I gain my freedom. It has been as if a heavy weight had been lifted from me, for I had thought I must suffer these hindrances. I learned at this time to start all my thinking with God, good, and not look to the physical signposts of error. This perhaps was my first lesson in Christian Science, which is simple, practical, and effective, when rightly applied. Each day proved to be a day of progress in understanding this Science, which taught me that peace and harmony are manifested whenever Truth and its divine laws are rightly understood and demonstrated.
