In the Glossary in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 584,) "Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded." Good has unfolded continually to me since this textbook of Christian Science was placed in my hands, and I received my first healing by reading and unreservedly accepting the truth therein revealed. (See chapter on Fruitage, ibid., p. 696, for my testimony.)
At the time of this new birth I was encompassed with problems various and perplexing, but the absolute faith that with God "all things are possible," encouraged me to strive for the love and spiritual understanding which were requisite for a permanent proof of real health and harmony here and now. It may have been a zeal without knowledge that hastened the early chastening which I received and for which I am most grateful, for it compelled me to seek a clearer concept of God as the only power, and the ever-present Christ, Truth, as the healer of sin and disease.
One of the indelible waymarks in my wilderness experience may encourage others to know the ever-presence of God. I had always believed that I had inherited a humor in the blood, which had often given me trouble, making me susceptible to erysipelas and other skin eruptions. In the late nineties, while traveling in the West, I was left among strangers in a boardinghouse for a few days. On the second morning my face was covered with erysipelas, supposedly starting from exposure to the rays of the Montana sun. For a few moments fear tried to argue thus: "Here you are, many miles from a post office, telegraph office, or city. You have no way of reaching a practitioner and you cannot see to read or help yourself."
