TRUTH IS ALWAYS READY

From the February 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The call to arms is a call to action. The armor of the Christian Scientist is Truth, with which he defends himself from the attacks of error. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 210), "Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort." She also says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 458): "It is anything but scientifically Christian to think of aiding the divine Principle of healing or of trying to sustain the human body until the divine Mind is ready to take the case. Divinity is always ready. Semper paratus is Truth's motto."

This truth which is applicable to physical healing is also applicable to the healing of every discordant human condition. In our efforts to overcome the destructive warfare with which mankind is faced today, the understanding that "divinity is always ready" can be applied and proved. An application of first importance is the pure, joyful gratitude that "divinity is always ready." Fear has raised the cry of unreadiness, lack of time, pressure of accomplishment, in so far as material preparedness is concerned. The Christian Scientist, however, stands on the rock of Christ, Truth, knowing himself to be already equipped, armed, and ready to do his part in the overcoming of evil. Holding the true concept of the spiritual fact aids effectively in bringing about whatever is necessary in human preparation and invention. It is well to recall Paul's words, "Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God."

The primary warfare is not, then, the destructive combat of material weapons or preparedness for such combat. The great task for each one is to rise to the active realization and demonstration of the all-power and all-presence of Spirit. Nothing less than this spiritual rising can adequately meet the claims of aggression which obtrude themselves upon thought and human experience in the present world conflict. As the individual who understands God knows and demonstrates the truth, which is spiritual, it will be increasingly proved that this divine activity is equal to "the pulling down" of the fear, hate, deception, occult suggestion, oppression, and so forth which fetter mankind today.
