I came to Christian Science seeking an answer to the problems of existence and relief from extreme mental depression, rather than for physical healing, because my general health had been good. Colds and stomach trouble, however, had occasioned much distress, and certain muscular ailments had caused inconvenience and suffering. The former difficulties disappeared promptly through Christian Science treatment, but the muscular trouble was much slower in yielding.
An early healing which I experienced in this connection was that of lumbago. One Sunday morning I found myself unable to rise, for any movement caused severe pain. My treatment seemed unavailing, and the time drew near when I should be on my way to usher at the Sunday morning service. Suddenly I remembered that I was to usher at a Christian Science lecture that afternoon. Then came the realization that there was no error to keep me from being in my right place. Almost immediately the pain and discomfort ceased, and I had just time to dress and reach the church. Previously there had been periodic attacks of lumbago, but there has been no return of the ailment since that time.
The healing of the mental condition was a long and slow process, "here a little, and there a little," but the cloud gradually lifted in spite of many seeming setbacks.
