In this mortal sense of existence one is constantly beset with uncertainties. Doubt, fear, hesitation, and self-depreciation occasionally hinder the individual in making right decisions. The question often arises, What shall I do about the situation which confronts me today? The first correct step is to turn thought wholeheartedly to God, acknowledging Him as divine Principle, the source of every right decision. Divine Mind is expressed in unerring and unchanging law, ever present and ever operative, eternally governing its ideas.
By divine reflection every one of God's ideas possesses the quality of intuition or immediate perception. The recognition of this fact by the individual enables him to turn with assurance to the examination and solution of any human problem which requires a right decision. When the children of Israel were pursued by the Egyptians, they were at a loss to know what to do, and in fear and uncertainty they cried out against Moses for leading them out of Egypt. Then Moses turned to God and received the command, "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward." Obeying this command, they were guided safely through the Red Sea and proceeded on their way toward the promised land of freedom and plenty.
A firm resolution on the part of the Christian Scientist to "go forward," assured of God's perfect direction, inevitably unfolds the idea that enables him to make a confident decision and press onward to a quick and successful solution of any problem. Should a wrong decision have been made, it will be corrected through God's ever-present law of divine adjustment. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, brings out this fact in the following statement from "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 10:) "The good cannot lose their God, their help in times of trouble. If they mistake the divine command, they will recover it, countermand their order, retrace their steps, and reinstate His orders, more assured to press on safely."
