I am impelled to write a testimony...

From the July 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am impelled to write a testimony telling of the glorious experiences that came to me and mine during World War I, hoping that it will prove beneficial to those who may now be experiencing anxiety and fear.

At that time I was a young student of Christian Science, having witnessed a number of healings and being greatly interested in all I read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

In the fall of 1917 a loved one crossed the Atlantic in service for his country. During many months after his arrival in France, his work was in Paris, where I felt he was some miles from imminent danger. Then came a letter saying he was leaving for the front the next day. Through all my years of prayer in the orthodox church, I had never received the beautiful answers that I had received since taking up the study of Christian Science. So I now turned wholeheartedly to God, as Christian Science reveals Him. All that night I wrestled with error—the belief of war, personal sense, intense anxiety, until the first real glimpse of God, Spirit, Life eternal, without beginning or end, dawned upon my consciousness and I saw that God, good, is All-in-all; that His omnipresence was a constant companion of this loved one, wherever he might be. All worry was gone!
