Christian Science has been my only physician for the past fifty years, and during this time I have witnessed many proofs of its healing and protecting power. About forty years ago I was healed of acute blood poisoning through the help of a Christian Science practitioner, whose loving-kindness and patience have always meant a great deal to me. On a Saturday noon I cut my hand on a piece of galvanized iron. I did not pay much attention to it at the time, although it caused me some discomfort. By noon the following Monday the hand and arm were badly swollen and the pain was severe. When the practitioner came to my home I seemed to be on the brink of death. His love in awakening me and telling me who and what I was in spiritual truth enabled me to rise from the couch on which I had been lying, and all pain disappeared. The following Wednesday he asked me to report at his office each day. In five weeks the condition was healed and I was able to go back to work.
Christian Science has proved to me on two occasions that broken bones can be healed as readily as any other physical problem. One of these experiences will show that all healing must come from within, not from without.
We were on a week-end visit at a summer cottage about one hundred and fifty miles from home. On Saturday, while we were playing ball, I stepped on a stone and slipped. As I fell I heard a cracking sound, but paid no attention to it. I got up, but in stepping forward found that one of my legs would not hold me. I crawled to a clump of bushes, silently repeating "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468).
