"GREAT WAS THE COMPANY"

From the March 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

On one of the outside walls of The Christian Science Publishing Society is inscribed in large bold letters this text from the sixty-eighth Psalm: "The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it."

The vigilant member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, never fails to remember that, proportionably to his active practice of Christian Science in all his daily affairs and duties, he constitutes himself a successful publisher of the Word of God, for his systematic exercise of the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy makes public, divulges, proclaims the good news of Christ to all the world in spiritual healing. With the great company of those who are striving to make Christian Science practical, he is at all times conscious of his individual responsibility in this far-reaching missionary work, for he is learning through experience that it is not enough to leave the proclaiming of the message to the Editors, printers, and workers of the Publishing Society.

Members of The Mother Church frequently send their precious gifts and their fruits of healing to that great receiving and clearing station, the Publishing House, provided by our Leader for their world-wide distribution. These gifts, these fruits, sometimes outwardly manifested in articles or testimonies for the periodicals, are the direct result of a heartfelt, prayerful desire on the part of the student of Christian Science to give proof of its teaching, and to do unto others as he would be done by, to look ceaselessly right through the mask, the counterfeit of God's man, as did Jesus, and steadfastly behold God's reflection. The understanding and utilization of this spiritual viewpoint, by its life-giving, life-sustaining nature, saves the sinner, overcoming death and the grave.
