OUT OF THIS QUIET

From the March 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Transfigured on the mount
He talked with those —
Moses the sage,
Elias, prophet of the Lord —
The while his friends stood by,
Peter and James and John,
Amazed at the bright cloud
Which overshadowed them,
And at his raiment shining heavenly bright,
And at the voice of God
From out the cloud proclaiming him
His Son.

Descending from the quiet of the mount,
He faced the pressing multitude,
And healed forthwith that hapless, helpless one
Who oft in his extremity would fall
Into the very fire.

Out of this quiet, Lord,
This bright communing, Love, with Thee,
Grant us today to heal and save
The hapless, helpless ones oft falling
Into the fires of false belief.

By prayer and fasting, Jesus said,
Such should be healed.
Faith, no bigger than a mustard seed,
Divinely animated,
He said, would move whole mountains of disease,
Of sin and death.
Nothing shall be impossible, he said.

Out of this quiet, Lord,
This bright communing, Love, with Thee,
Let healing flow, enveloping
Humanity.
