With deep gratitude to God for Christian Science, I send this testimony.
A Wednesday evening testimony meeting was my first introduction to this Science. I was greatly impressed with the quietness and peace of the service, and deeply moved upon reading on the wall the words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I straightway accepted Christian Science, and have since been blessed with love, friendship, and an ever-broadening and richer outlook. I was not permitted to read the textbook or other Science literature in the house; I had to rely solely on the Wednesday evening meetings and the Sunday evening service. I listened carefully, therefore, and memorized gradually all that I could—the Lord's Prayer and its scientific interpretation (Science and Health, pp. 16, 17), "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468), and various other now loved and familiar passages. These I repeated every morning on my way to business. When I realized that God was my Father-Mother, I was overwhelmed with an inexpressible joy.
Because I had a great longing for affection and kindness, the reading and singing of our Leader's hymn, "O Gentle Presence" (Poems, p. 4), always brought tears to my eyes, and sometimes I was unable to sing the words. The beauty of the words and the message soon made me look up and hope, and yearn to know more of God, and to love and be kind.
