NOT BY DREAMING

From the April 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Not by dreaming, but by knowing,
Is high happiness attained.
Then why not dream when sapphire skies,
Swept clean by western winds,
Hold promise of bright treasure—
Why must we know, and why not dream?

Because your dreaming is the yielding
To temptation's claim that good is far off,
Not yet yours, may never be.
Wake, and recognize your birthright.
Know whose child you are, and your
High heritage of rich dominion.
Does your Father-Mother God not give
To you all good? Does Love bestow less
Than all loveliness?

So our way must be by knowing,
Knowing God, who waits only our
Clearing vision. Then our joy is secure.
And our heaven is Love's presence;
Our treasure, Spirit's deep abundance.
