One of the many inherent desires prevalent in the thoughts of mortals is to possess; usually it is the longing for something outside one's present experience. In the desire to possess, one's motives may not always be above reproach. One may crave material wealth largely for the sake of reposing in the comfort it promises to provide. The desire to occupy a position of great prominence or responsibility may not always be accompanied by the intelligent qualifications necessary to maintain with poise, dignity, and productivity the requirements of such a place. Consequently, as one entertains human vagaries, he will seek in vain for happiness, and he is quite likely to discover despair and discouragement are his companions, unless his thought is corrected through the study and application of Christian Science.
Anyone who will take the time carefully to analyze the revelation of Truth, as set forth in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, will find therein the coincidence of this teaching with the words and works of the master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus. The last one hundred pages of this remarkable book are devoted to testimonies of healing, under the chapter heading, "Fruitage." The writers of these testimonies were healed solely by reading the textbook. Diseases of almost every name and nature are there recorded as having yielded to the healing influence of the truth contained in this volume.
Centuries ago Jesus portrayed in his life and works the standard of right thinking and conduct which men should cultivate in order to experience a right sense of possession. That criterion is set forth in his simple declaration, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
