In Jesus' wilderness experience, all the subtle devices of the tempter were employed to persuade him that the divine power could be used for himself personally. The Master, detecting the artful philosophy of the serpent, cloaked with the letter of Scriptural texts, summarily silenced the lies with the inspired Word of the Scriptures. The devil then departed from him, "and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."
In his healing ministry Christ Jesus cast out evil spirits, exposing them as illusions springing from the false mortal sense of man, wholly unrelated to the man of God's creating. The people, amazed at his ability to cast out devils, never having seen such an exhibition of divine power, were to learn that this power was not personal. It was the law of God, Spirit, governing man's entire being.
The delusive demons which Jesus cast out with the Christ-power are rampant today, because mortals continue to believe that man is separated from God and His sustaining law of Life and Love. The unlimited ability which the truth of man's unity with God confers upon everyone is set forth in these dynamic words of our Master: "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Were Christians generally to grasp the full significance of this marvelous revelation of Truth, what a harvest would follow in the redemption of mankind from sin, sickness, and death!
