"I SHALL NOT WANT"

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

From the August 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In solving mathematical problems we may refer to the answers listed in the back of our textbook, but, in order to obtain the correct answer indicated there, we must thoroughly study and obey the rules laid down.

The beautiful promises of blessing given in the Bible are often prefaced by a command which must be obeyed in order to reap the desired benefits. The Bible is the Christian Scientist's chart of life, and our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has, through her inspired writings, given us a fresh, clear comprehension of the Bible commands and promised blessings so that we are able easily to use them in our everyday problems.

A young student of Christian Science who was faced with stagnation in her business career proved this to be true. She had accepted a position in a time of need which paid meagerly and offered almost no hope of advancement for anyone in her department. Especially did this unfortunate condition seem true in her case, for she had not had the thorough training in typing and stenography ordinarily deemed essential to any remotely possible advanced position in that concern. While this young woman felt most grateful for the good which had unfolded in her surroundings, and there had been many proofs of God's presence and care, she firmly believed she was entitled to expect some step of progress.
