I have a friend who lives not so far from here. He is a large man, well over six feet—big fellow in body, mind, and soul. . . . One day one of the management said to him: "I've watched you for a long time. I've never seen anyone quite like you. I have never seen anyone so skillful in human relations as you are. . . . You have something that I cannot understand. What is it?" Well, my friend said: "I don't know. I do not know what I have, unless it is this. . . . Some years ago I decided to be a real Christian, and I began to investigate the method of Jesus, the Master. I finally adopted this policy: that whenever I speak to an individual, or he speaks to me, the first thought that goes into my mind, before I say a word, is this, 'This man—this woman—is a child of God.' For a while, I had to practice that, but now it is almost automatic. Before I speak, I say, 'This man—this woman—is a child of God.'"
