Testimonies of Healing

It would be impossible to express in...

From the August 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It would be impossible to express in words alone my unbounded gratitude for Christian Science and for what it has done for me. I realize that gratitude must be expressed in service and in daily living. But a verbal expression of gratitude may help another to turn to Truth for his God-bestowed freedom.

I did not come into Christian Science because of a physical need, but because I witnessed in the life of a Christian Scientist the peace and calm and unselfed love which I desired to express. I had also witnessed her very remarkable healing of a lifelong eye trouble. When she laid aside her glasses and Christian Science treatment and work were taken up, this member of my family could see so little that it was necessary to lead her around the house. But within a space of weeks she was completely free, and the healing was permanent. As I observed her healing and beautiful daily living and good works, I remembered that Jesus once said that a tree could be known by its fruits. I saw that the fruits of Christian Science were good, and I at once commenced its study. Later this, member of my family told me that her healing came when she learned to rejoice every time she heard of another healing of eye trouble, and corrected the thought that she wished the healing might have been hers instead.

I am grateful for the harmony and freedom resulting from the healing of sickness, for I have seen proof upon proof that Christian Science heals. In the days of my early study of this Science I had an instantaneous healing of a severe burn upon my hand when I realized that substance is Spirit, and that there is no sensation in matter. I am grateful for this healing, which proved to me that the beginner in Science can heal by its means, for, as our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us (Science and Health, p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing."
