When I was first told of Christian Science, it was indeed a revelation. On page 298 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "When the real is attained, which is announced by Science, joy is no longer a trembler, nor is hope a cheat." I thought about this passage, and read it over and over again.
I had suffered in many ways, and I often prayed for a logical solution to my problems that would also enable me to help mitigate human misery. The answer came in Christian Science.
I was privileged to help a woman who expected to pass on. After daily talks on Christian Science, resulting in rapidly improved conditions, she came to me one day, saying, "Never have I known such happiness." She saw then that her happiness was the outcome of knowing that we are. in reality, spiritual, and exist to reflect God. Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 265), "The pains of sense quickly inform us that the pleasures of sense are mortal and that joy is spiritual."
