ORDERED LIVES

From the October 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The understanding of Christian Science dispels such fallacies as the belief that human life is like a game of chance, and that whatever comes into one's experience, be it favorable or unfavorable, is in accord with the predetermined plan of his life and an edict of Deity. Reversing such suggestions, Christian Science teaches us that under the government of divine Principle, everything must be in accord with invariable spiritual law, since all that God creates, sanctions, and maintains, expresses perfect harmony and orderliness throughout the infinite cycles of spiritual existence.

We are, however, often confronted with the apparent activity of evil, which presents itself in the guise of delay, uncertainty, fluctuation, discord, disorder, danger, accident, and fatality; but we should clearly understand that such conditions are totally unrelated to true being, or the divine plan and purpose. Nothing in God's universe is subject to chance or change. In it each idea moves with complete co-operation and co-ordination, with absolute precision and accuracy. Unknown is the superstition of fate, of good or bad luck, or of any influence apart from divine Love's limitless beneficence! Everything relating to man, to his right activity and well-being, perpetually manifests— through reflection and unfoldment—the perfection and infallibility of infinite divine Principle.

Because God is, life is! Man, being the offspring of Spirit and not of matter, forever inherits and expresses God's goodness. Being conscious of his oneness with the infinite divine Mind, man is permanently secure and immune from all evil. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, assures us in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 470, 471), "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history."
