"THE KEYNOTE OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE"

From the October 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The Scriptures give the keynote of Christian Science from Genesis to Revelation," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 366 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "and this is the prolonged tone: 'For the Lord He is God, and there is none beside Him.' And because He is All-in-all, He is in nothing unlike Himself; and nothing that worketh or maketh a lie is in Him, or can be divine consciousness."

This statement of absolute truth Mrs. Eddy denotes as "the keynote of Christian Science," thereby giving the statement special importance. That our Leader recognized its value is evident by the number of times she quotes this passage or uses the idea throughout her writings.

Solomon grasped the meaning of this great fact, and saw that it was definitely applicable to human problems and the healing of them. In his famous prayer at the dedication of the temple he built, Solomon reminded his people that when they sinned, they would be healed if they forsook their sin and turned to God; that whatever their plague or sickness, their prayer and supplication to God would restore them, "that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none else" (I Kings 8:60).
