SELF-EXAMINATION

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

From the October 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A Class in naval radio was about to take a final speed test in radio receiving. One of the students, a young Christian Scientist, noticed that many of his classmates seemed nervous and uneasy. He, however, felt quite composed and thoroughly ready for the test.

Then the examination began. Within thirty seconds his composure commenced to waver. He was missing many of the signals. In another thirty seconds his composure had disappeared completely. The result was that he failed miserably.

While most of his classmates were graduated and assigned to active duty, the Christian Scientist, together with a few others, was held for further training. The young man was keenly disappointed. At the first opportunity he went to a Christian Science Reading Room for a few moments of quiet study and self-examination. He wanted to find out the reason for his failure. He well knew that on the basis of his training record he should have passed the final test easily and satisfactorily.
