Christian Science is indeed a light shining in darkness.
Several years ago I was thrown while riding horseback, and my world had grown very dark. Although brought up in Christian Science, I had never been a student, and had drifted farther away from its teachings than I realized at the time. Discouragement and fear filled my thinking, fear as to when I should be able to walk again and whether or not I should ever lead the active life to which I had been accustomed. I was weak and exhausted from worry and pain. However, I had always turned to Christian Science in times of need, and it had never failed me. Through its application by a member of the family who was a practitioner I had seen and experienced healings of various kinds. I believed in its teachings and had an underlying faith that God would lead me back. Turning from mere faith and belief and striving earnestly for a clearer understanding of the truth which I knew to be so efficacious, I was led to apply for admission to the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. There, through the patient and devoted work of a practitioner, the healing was accomplished.
Gratitude for the physical healing was great and I was glad to be free to lead an active life again, but of far greater importance was the spiritual awakening which came at this time. With a clearer recognition of the allness of God came a greater sense of peace and a deeper appreciation of our inspired Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who gave Christian Science to the world.
