Eight months in the New Guinea area have given me much time for reflection, and I have realized more clearly than ever before the protection, power, and love bestowed on man by God, as revealed in Christian Science. The knowledge of man's oneness with Him has been a protection against fear, heat, mosquitoes, resentment, homesickness, drowsiness, and many other erroneous beliefs that appear to flourish in the jungles. By applying scientifically the Biblical statement (Acts 17:28), "For in him we live, and move, and have our being," I can realize God's allness, and the great truth that His love is ever present to comfort, protect, and guide.
I am very grateful for a healing of intermittent boils, from which I suffered for a number of years. They were both painful and embarrassing. When I was told they were impurities being purged, I was more willing than ever to purify my consciousness through enlarging my understanding of God, Truth, Life, and Love. Soon after an extremely large and painful boil appeared on my cheek, I was kindly and earnestly told by the practitioner that I would never have another boil, and I never have.
While at Fort Ord, California, just before leaving for overseas, I was attacked one evening with severe pains in my stomach. For four hours I combated this erroneous condition to no avail. As the pains grew worse I realized I needed help. I was barely able to reach a telephone some distance from the barracks. Immediately after talking with the Christian Science Wartime Minister, I felt relieved. I returned to my bunk, it being about midnight, and slept soundly till reveille, answering roll call in the best of health.
