Testimonies of Healing

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "The First Church...

From the October 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 210): "Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited." The above statements have proved to be a great source of inspiration and strength to me during the past six years. I am humbly grateful to our beloved Leader for giving us this exact Science, which we can apply to our everyday problems and confidently expect right fruitage.

When Greece, the country of our birth, was invaded and occupied by two countries in 1941, it appeared that every possible way of helping our dear ones over there was cut off. My husband was deeply grieved over the tragic reports of children starving and thought of his brother's children on the little island of Zante. Then the angel thought came to me that we could help them and all others by knowing the truth. From that time on, we daily realized the beauty, power, and absolute assurance of the affirmations and promises found in the twenty-third, ninety-first, and one hundred and third Psalms. Regardless of the hour, my husband never left the house without reading and meditating on these Psalms. In addition, we studied regularly the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, the religious article in The Christian Science Monitor, and the timely and ever helpful articles in our other periodicals.

In 1945, we received cards and letters from three different parts of Greece, one from Zante, telling us that during the years of occupation they were able to manage so well that they suffered no lack. The Lord was indeed their Shepherd. A second letter was from my little sister, who sought refuge from Athens at the outbreak of the war, in our mountain home at Levidion, Arcadia. She wrote that the enemy burned two hundred and ten houses on account of guerrilla resistance, but our two houses were not touched. Surely, "he that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." The third letter was from a friend in Athens, who wrote, "As far as my needs go, everything has been marvelously provided." Her delightful sense of humor was still in evidence. For these proofs of God's loving-kindness and ever-present protection and supply, I am thankful.
