CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TREATMENT

From the July 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An unselfish desire to do good and an unselfed love for God and man are the motives essential to the successful treatment of sin or disease through Christian Science. A restrictive, selfish desire, or a willful purpose in the thought of one attempting to practice this Science ensures defeat.

What is the basis of Christian Science treatment? The answer is found on page 259 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Here Mary Baker Eddy says, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." The one basis for demonstrating the Christ Science is "perfect Principle and idea, perfect God and perfect man." Because Christ Jesus possessed the understanding of the perfection of God and man, he could heal all manner of disease and sin.

Christian Science teaches that the one cause is Principle, or perfect Mind, absolute intelligence, and that its effect is the real individuality of man, which is Mind-like and spiritual, the idea, or individual expression, of this perfect Mind. To the material senses this seems transcendental, intangible. To spiritual sense it is the verity of being.
