A public expression of gratitude for Christian Science is appropriate at this time because of the many healings I have experienced. These healings are an example of the efficacy of God's law, or Christian Science.
Because my parents were Christian Scientists, I have always had this comforting religion. As a child I was comparatively free from so-called children's diseases and other difficulties. To the best of my recollection I had only measles and chicken pox, and I believe these were healed in a few days. When I was in the third or fourth grade, a school physician indicated that I had adenoids. One of the teachers at the school was a Christian Scientist and immediately told my mother. My mother gave me Christian Science treatment, and although I had subsequent examinations, adenoids were never again mentioned.
More recently my understanding of Christian Science helped me while I was serving in the armed forces. A few weeks after I started my basic infantry training I was afflicted with what Army doctors said was spinal meningitis. A Christian Science practitioner gave me treatment, and in about five or six days I was freed from this malady, although the doctor would not permit me to leave the hospital until two weeks had elapsed.
