PROVING THE PERFECT WILL OF GOD

From the November 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In divine Science, man is seen as God's reflection. Accordingly, man is ever and in all ways obedient to his divine Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. He has nothing underived from God, but in joyous fidelity he reflects divine Mind, his spiritual source, which is also his present secure dwelling place.

Christ Jesus, who exemplified the highest sense of obedience, said (John 14:15), "If ye love me, keep my commandments." His two great commandments, namely, to love God with all one's heart, soul, and mind and to love one's neighbor as oneself, call for self-overcoming and obedience, through which the claims of the carnal mind are nullified. Paul referred to this freedom-giving devotion as "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus," which, he testified (Rom. 8:2), had made him "free from the law of sin and death."

Aware that the sinning human race falls far short of the Master's immaculate example, one might ask, Could the Christ ever condemn or forsake mankind? Assuredly, the answer is "No." So infinite is Love that every right motive and action is "acceptable unto God"; not because of human goodness, but because divinity shines through it. That the Christ stays with us is proved whenever unselfed love for God and one's neighbor gathers its heavenly rays from Truth and Love.
