For nearly twenty-five years I have been blessed by the teachings of Christian Science. Through my childhood and until early womanhood I was sickly, suffering each winter from bronchitis and a susceptibility to colds.
While in Boston one winter I was invited to attend a Wednesday evening meeting at The Mother Church. I had never heard of Christian Science at the time. As a child I had attended an orthodox Sunday School, had been taught the Scriptures, and loved the name of Christ Jesus. During the testimony meeting I heard the name of Mary Baker Eddy mentioned frequently, and it surprised and offended me to hear it in the same breath, so to speak, with that of our beloved Master. About a year later, when visiting in the South, I was invited to attend a Christian Science lecture. The wonderful healing message was a great revelation to me, and I knew immediately that it was the truth, the logical conclusion to all that I had been taught by loving and spiritually-minded teachers.
My first copy of the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, brought great blessing, and gave me an entirely new outlook on life. During the next few years I studied constantly, eagerly taking in this spiritual refreshment and finding healing in mind and body. As a young student I had the great privilege of receiving class instruction, which unfolded the correct application of the truths of Science, and the realization of my individual responsibility upon accepting this Christ-idea into my daily life.
