Testimonies of Healing

Since my introduction to Christian Science...

From the March 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since my introduction to Christian Science God has been my only Physician. Often physical difficulties have been healed by the understanding that God is All-in-all and holy; that holiness is health, and that God's idea can reflect only health. An injury to my back, caused by my being thrown from a horse, was healed in a few days with the help of a practitioner. The sense of separation at the passing on of one dear to me was healed by the clear realization of the oneness of God and of the ever-protecting presence of divine Love. Demonstrations of the truth in regard to supply and place have been made and lost articles have been recovered.

The Reading Room has been instrumental in many healings, including two instantaneous ones, those of the smoking habit of many years' duration and of resentment. One afternoon I had occasion to visit a Reading Room, and while there was questioned by the one on duty as to why I had not taken the step towards church membership, since I was very regular in attendance and apparently earnest in my endeavor. I told her that I had applied but had been refused because I had not overcome smoking. When it was voiced that I was entertaining a false sense of companionship, I was immediately released from the habit to which I had so thoroughly disliked being a slave. This release gave me a great sense of cleanness and freedom.

When planning a trip to a distant country, I was repeatedly warned by many people of the dishonesty of some of the inhabitants I should meet. I remember refusing to accept this suggestion, knowing that man is God's image and likeness. I was richly rewarded later by the following experience. I had been sight-seeing and shopping and had stopped in a store to try on some hats. Because my rings kept getting caught in the hat veils, I removed them. When I returned to the hotel for lunch and was questioned as to how I had passed the morning, I realized that I had left my rings in the store. I immediately declared the truth about the situation and felt free from anxiety, but at my friends' insistence that my rings were gone, I began to doubt. I called a Christian Scientist whom I had met the previous Sunday and asked her to help me. Later when I reached the store the woman who had waited on me returned the rings to me nicely wrapped, even before I had finished asking for them.
