Never a day goes by without my feeling a deep sense of gratitude for our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all she has given to mankind through her teachings and writings. I am also most grateful for our Way-shower, Christ Jesus.
I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School for a number of years, and the truths I learned there were a constant help through my school days. I enjoyed good health always. Instead of being healed of illness, I was protected from experiencing it, for Christian Science is a preventive as well as a curative Science. Though I joined The Mother Church and a branch church upon leaving Sunday School and became an active church worker, it was some time before I was led to seek class instruction. I am grateful that I waited until I was completely ready for this all-important step, for when it came, it was the most wonderful experience I had ever had. I shall never cease to thank God for the good which was unfolded to me at that time, and which continues to be unfolded as I apply the teaching I received.
One day, about three years ago, I noticed that a friend had a badly inflamed eye, and the condition looked very real to me. A few days later I experienced the same thing. A small growth persisted on my eyelid and did not yield when I applied the truth as taught in Christian Science. Some time later a friend quoted to me a sentence from our Leader's book "Unity of Good" (p. 60): "This false sense of substance must yield to His eternal presence, and so dissolve." I memorized this statement and studied thoroughly its meaning. I saw that since God, Spirit, is ever-present good and the only real substance, there can be no error and no reality in any material manifestation. A few days later I realized that the growth had entirely disappeared.
