For many years I have desired to express...

From the March 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many years I have desired to express in writing my deep gratitude for some of the many benefits and blessings which I have experienced through the study of Christian Science. When I read an article in The Christian Science Monitor entitled "Prompt Payment," it made me realize how wrong I had been to withhold the expression of my gratitude in writing.

I was healed of a tubercular disease over forty years ago, after doctors had said that there was no cure for me. There have been many healings in the family. A bad attack of convulsions was healed in a matter of minutes, without any return. Relief from croup was gained quickly for my little son, but the trouble returned frequently until I realized that there was some fear in my thought. When I was able to put him back into his own room instead of keeping him in my bedroom after each attack, then the ailment was overcome and never returned.

Often when we first hear of Christian Science we notice the healings most, but as we grow in understanding and realize how our outlook has changed, we find it is the spiritual outlook that holds and attracts us. I am indeed most grateful for all the benefits I have received, but it is for a clearer understanding of God who is ever-present Love and for joy and peace that my gratitude is unbounded. Words can never express my grateful thoughts to Mrs. Eddy for her great gift to all mankind, her unselfish life, and her works.—
