Testimonies of Healing

For over four years I have been studying...

From the March 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For over four years I have been studying Christian Science, the promised Comforter. I wish to express gratitude for the good it has brought into my experience.

During the last communion service I attended in a Protestant church, I prayed for an understanding of this ritual. Soon my prayer was answered. A copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was lovingly lent to me after I attended services in a local Christian Science Society at the invitation of a neighbor. Mrs. Eddy, speaking of Jesus, states on page 20, "But he established no ritualistic worship." And she says on page 32, "The true sense is spiritually lost, if the sacrament is confined to the use of bread and wine."

When I read on page 6 of the textbook, "'God is Love,'" my consciousness was flooded with light. In this statement my concept of God as capable of punishing His own vanished.

I am most grateful for the unfolding of the ability to serve as soloist in a branch church. This privilege has healed my fear of an audience from which I had suffered since childhood. It has also taught me that God gives us our talents, the opportunity to express them, and the ability to improve them.

During my first year's study of the textbook I gave birth to a child, after I had twice experienced miscarriage. A Scientist had lovingly assured me that there is no law which could hold one in bondage to the belief that a normal birth could not take place. I was also instantaneously healed of constipation after mentioning this trouble to a student.

After studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly on the subject of Life, I was notified of the sudden passing on of my father. I experienced no grief, knowing that God is Life.

I am most grateful for all the writings of Mrs. Eddy, for the periodicals she established, and for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society. I shall always be grateful for the friend who introduced Science to our family.—
