My heart overflows with gratitude to God for blessing us with this Christ-way of living which we find revealed in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Through the study and application of Christian Science I have found more abundant health and the supply and happiness that accompany a grander and more loving sense of life.
My first healing in Christian Science was of leukemia. After a kindly physician had reluctantly informed me that there was nothing more he could do for me, a friend recommended that I try Christian Science. I accepted this recommendation and sought the aid of a practitioner. I shall never cease to be grateful for that happy time when, after a visit to her, I returned home with the solid conviction that Mind was the only medicine I required. I willingly cast away the material remedies, some of which I had just bought.
This was over seven years ago, and since the dawn of this great fact I have found no need for other remedies, but have experienced better health than I had ever known. A stomach disorder, a vexation since childhood, was healed, and also a kidney infection, which had foiled the doctors, was forced to give place to the higher law of Love. I have experienced many other healings, such as those of colds, coughs, sore throats, and influenza, one or more of which had harassed me every winter and sometimes in the summer as well. The statement, "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, pp. 380, 381), helped me immeasurably in seeing that the breaking of certain physical laws could not result in disease, that they were man-made, and could in fact be reduced to the status of mere superstitions.
The children have benefited by their attendance at the Christian Science Sunday School, being able to prove for themselves in several instances facts learned there. Over two years ago our son experienced a beautiful healing of scarlet fever. The first symptom seemed quite severe, and since it did not yield immediately, help was sought from a Christian Science practitioner. Through her clear perception of Truth, the healing was very quickly accomplished, and though we were quarantined for two weeks by the city health department, it was a happy, joyous time for our entire household. The practitioner asked that we comply in every detail with the health department's rules and regulations, which we did faithfully. We, in turn, found their representative very gracious and co-operative. A friend suggested that our son must have scarlatina or one of the so-called lighter forms. However, on the last trip the nurse pointed out definite evidence that he had gone through what materia medica calls scarlet fever, though he experienced no discomfort after the first two days, and there have been no aftereffects.
I could go on and on telling of healings and blessings that have come through the application of Christian Science. Truly, as we turn to it, "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way" (ibid., p. 454).
As a widow with two small children, far from family and former friends, I found Mother Church and branch church membership to be a comfort, help, and blessing. It is definitely a progressive and fruitful step for anyone. I am grateful to have had the privilege of class instruction early in my study of Christian Science. It continues to be a blessing, ever unfolding good.— Sacramento, California.
