A few years ago I had difficulty in hearing. Unless I sat well towards the front of the church I could hear little that was read from the desk. General conversation at table was not heard, and telephone conversations were difficult to get. Some treatments were lovingly given me by one of our Leader's students. One thought held to was from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
I never spoke of this condition to anyone except the practitioner. Only my husband knew of it. There was never a desire to resort to any medical diagnosis or material treatment. When or how the healing came, as it did after about two years, I do not know, but it is complete; and the hearing, which previously was always good, is as acute as ever. Whatever the mental obstruction was, it was removed; and twice a small hard substance came away through the throat.
Such an experience is sacred. As such I share it, giving God the glory and expressing gratitude for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Through her untiring and unswerving devotion to the revelation which came to her, she gave the world Christian Science, the Comforter promised by our Master, Christ Jesus. This enables us to realize his promise (John 14:12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." As a child I loved the Bible and felt strongly that there was a God-given power if I only knew how to use it. The understanding of God's law and some knowledge of how it operates, because God is ever present and supreme, has come to me through Christian Science.
