My parents took up the study of Christian Science when I was one year old, as a result of a healing experienced by my father. I started attending Sunday School when I was three, and for this early start in Christian Science I am most grateful.
Through childhood I was protected and healed by the truths that I learned in Sunday School. At one time I broke both bones in my right forearm. A practitioner's help was immediately requested, and it was decided to have the bones set by a surgeon. When the surgeon saw the first X rays, he expressed doubt that the arm could be properly set, for the bones were splintered. I did not want to have an anesthetic. When my mother asked the doctor that it not be given, he refused the request. No more was said, however, and when he began to set the bones, I depended entirely upon "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This was sufficient to deaden the mortal senses and to permit divine law to operate. X rays showed perfectly set bones. We were told that it would take six weeks for the arm to heal, but the cast and bandages were off in four weeks.
The only good use we can make of looking into the past is to count our blessings. I feel that through the years God has indeed been at my right hand. Whenever I have been ready to grow in grace, His guidance has been present. Great comfort has come to me with the knowledge of divine Love's government of the universe. I am grateful for all the channels for progress in Science that Mrs. Eddy has made available for all mankind.—Minneapolis, Minnesota.
