SPIRITUAL PREPARATION FOR PROGRESS

From the January 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE discloses God's universal, loving control of His own creation. Every spiritual desire, every right effort to progress, belongs to His jurisdiction and evidences the ever-presence of His infinite self-expression. Hence it is fruitful in accomplishment, for divine Love blesses its own creation, supporting with the force of omnipotence every impulse of good. The searching wisdom of Proverbs declares (16:1), "The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord."

Describing true prayer in "No and Yes," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 39): "It shows us more clearly than we saw before, what we already have and are; and most of all, it shows us what God is. Advancing in this light, we reflect it; and this light reveals the pure Mind-pictures, in silent prayer, even as photography grasps the solar light to portray the face of pleasant thought."

Every step in spiritual advancement is measured by the unveiling of "the pure Mind-pictures"—spiritual views of God's creation, which dispel temporal, mortal thoughts appearing as matter and limitation of good. The prayer of unselfed love acknowledges God as All, as one infinite, all-inclusive Person, and willingly abandons mortal consciousness and its perceptions as unreal and false.
