REVERENCE, RESPECT, AND COURTESY

From the October 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE name of Jesus is one we all reverence. As our Way-shower he pointed the way of salvation which enables us to run a straight course and attain our spiritual objective.

In Christian Science a distinction is made between Jesus and the Christ. Jesus was the human man; Christ is the divine ideal. The two are distinct, yet inseparable. The title for our Master most favored by Christian Scientists is Christ Jesus, because this title includes in one individuality the divinity of the Christ and the humanity of Jesus.

It was through the Christ that Jesus healed, and it was by Jesus that the Christ was demonstrated. The Christ has always existed. It was not confined to the appearance of Jesus. The Christ does not come and go as the human concept seems to do.
