"A MAN SHALL BE AS AN HIDING PLACE"

From the December 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the thirty-second chapter of Isaiah we read, "And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land."

This Christ-revelation of man as a refuge and rest brought much inspiration to one student of Christian Science when faced with the problem of vacating her rooms and finding a new home in a few days. A considerable amount of consecrated metaphysical work had previously been done concerning a home, and her present quarters seemed in many ways to fulfill her needs. And yet here she was with the ground apparently taken from under her feet. Facing squarely up to the problem, she felt that it was a challenge to gain a much higher sense of home than she had yet realized.

Prayerfully seeking the key to the solution of the problem and looking back over her past experience in demonstrating the truths of Christian Science, she saw that every successful demonstration of Truth had been based on the idea of giving rather than getting. At first it was not easy to see how the thought of giving could be applied in this case. Home represented to her a refuge, a dwelling place, a harbor of rest and protection, where one could find refreshment and peace. How could these ideas be connected with giving?
