MAN IS NOT CONDEMNED, BUT FREE!

From the December 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN startling contrast to the general belief that all men are condemned by material law to limitation, imperfection, disease, age, and mortality comes Paul's immortal declaration to the Romans (8:1, 2): "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." That these brief sentences declare the truth of the whole system of Christian Science is the significant assertion of Mary Baker Eddy when quoting them on page 113 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany."

No condemnation or penalty of any kind to the real, spiritual man, whom the Master exemplified and Christian Science enables us to realize! To know man as the image of Spirit, the immortal idea of divine Mind, is to realize your perfect selfhood, free of all error now! The law of Spirit, divine Truth, Life, and Love, condemns no one, though it is a law of annihilation to every belief in evil, to fear, sin, disease, and death. It completely nullifies every material law, evil influence, and limitation. Christ Jesus demonstrated this spiritual law, which governs man's being in eternal harmony, freedom, and perfection; and the great Way-shower commanded his students to follow his example.

The law of Spirit is the law of liberty, justice, and mercy. It is the law of health and harmony. It reveals God as the only true Lawgiver and man as the expression of His law of good. That which expresses divine law is forever unlimited, uncondemned, and unaffected by so-called material or human laws. Therefore the real man, the spiritual selfhood of everyone, is free now from anything that would restrict his individual reflection of infinite good. He is not in the flesh, or matter, but lives and moves and has his being in God, Spirit, where matter is unknown. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 542), "The belief of life in matter sins at every step." Farther on she adds, "Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God's own way, and let human justice pattern the divine." Then will Christian Science be demonstrated.
