From earliest childhood I have turned...

From the December 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From earliest childhood I have turned naturally to God for guidance, strengthening of moral fiber, and courage to go forward. Once, when I was still quite young, I expressed the wish to see the Master. About fifteen years later, in reply to the questions, "What is your ambition? What would you like most to do?" I said, in effect: "I believe there is a way of life which is good and right. It is my ambition to find it."

These desires were heartfelt, and we are told in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 1), "Desire is prayer." I felt they were both answered when I became a student of Christian Science. It was a slow process, for the way seemed dark. In 1926 my mother was greatly helped by Science. In 1931 I tried to read Science and Health, but could not seem to understand what I read. In 1935 I began teaching in a location near a Christian Science Society, and a year later one of the new teachers in our system took me to church there with her. I felt as though I had at last come home, as indeed I had. With the help of a consecrated student, who is now a practitioner, I began regular study with the Christian Science Quarterly and was admitted to membership in the society and a few years later to membership in The Mother Church.

Mere words cannot express my gratitude for all the benefits I have received from Christian Science. I went through ten years of rugged travail and feel that I owe my health, happiness, sanity, and life itself to this beloved Science.
