A dear friend, seeing my need for healing, presented Christian Science to me, but I did not accept it immediately. I had just had a severe operation and thought if I could only regain my health I should regain my joy and happiness and establish harmony in my home. My health improved in some ways and became much worse in others. As for joy, happiness, and harmony—they seemed farther away from me than ever, and I was greatly discouraged. A large home and two small children made the demands upon me seem much greater than I could manage in my depleted physical condition.
A few weeks later something very distressing occurred, and in my anguish and helplessness I turned wholeheartedly to Christian Science. I purchased the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and also sought help from a practitioner.
The struggle at times was severe, but like a drowning man I endeavored to save myself. I am very grateful for the aid and encouragement I received from practitioners during this time. I regained my health and strength rather slowly; but by earnest striving to understand and know God, I was healed of the physical difficulties, joy and happiness were restored, and my feet were planted in the true path.
