Many times I have wanted to write of my gratitude for Christian Science, but have hesitated because it seemed that I had no outstanding and impressive physical healing of which to tell. But each proof of God's ever-present love and care is equally important, and gratitude is not proportionate to mortal mind's estimate of the healing.
When I first learned of Christian Science, it appealed to me as a logical and beautiful religion; but I was in no need of physical healing, and although I attended church services for many years, I read Science more than I used it.
Over three years ago I discovered a small but painful growth on my body. As it was not visible to others, I said nothing about it to anyone. One day this statement from the textbook, Science and Health by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, came to me as clearly as if it had been spoken, "What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace." I pondered it and left it. It came again, and again I pondered it. Still again it came so insistently that wondering what else it was I needed to learn from the statement, I looked it up on page 4 of Science and Health and read, "What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds." I realized then that my prayer was not enough if I did not live it.
