For a number of years I have been reading and benefiting by the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals. I was awakened from a thought of receiving to one of giving by reading an article that was published in The Christian Science Journal. I am grateful for that article.
I became interested in Christian Science through my father's healing of varicose veins, from which he had suffered for many years. This healing took place about the time that one of my children was born. I had been suffering from sciatica for several months, and walking was difficult. When my baby was a month old, my father came to visit us and told us that he had been completely healed through Christian Science. I asked him what Christian Science was, and he told me it was primitive Christianity; that it followed the doctrine which Jesus taught and practiced. He then gave me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and said, "This will tell you more about it than I can." I began to read it in all my spare moments, and in less than a week I realized that I was walking without difficulty; all pain had disappeared. This healing took place over thirty years ago, and there never has been a return of that disease. How wise of my father to give me the textbook for my answer!
Since then pneumonia, influenza, chronic sore throat, catarrh, and many other physical diseases have been healed in our family, sometimes with the help of a Christian Science practitioner and sometimes through our own study and application of the truth taught in our textbook. We have learned that there is no problem which cannot be solved by this teaching. The problem of lack was met by the realization of the ever-presence of God and the abundance of good He bestows.
